About Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing
A niche market was created with the introduction of powered catamaran hulls to the area. At this time catamarans had yet to find favour in the notoriously rough Cape seas and this afforded the company the opportunity of individuality during its formative years. However it was only a matter of time before catamarans were accepted in the Cape, having subsequently become the craft of choice.
Owing to the initial involvement in the design and rigging of the products supplied to us as a retailer, it was decided to become fully independent and manufacture our own craft. The first craft produced – the Magnum 780 was sold in various configurations and supplied to end users both locally and around the world. The designs and moulds of the Magnum 780 were sold to a US based company in 1998. At this time the company had developed new and more advanced products and by the year 1999, the manufacturing division had grown sufficiently to split away from the retail and service orientated Two Oceans Marine and Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing was registered.
Extensive testing is performed on all of our new products prior to the production of moulds. We are fortunate to have access to the most demanding sea conditions in which to perform these tests thereby allowing us to adequately design and construct the final product. Our 2500 square metre facility is based on the outskirts of Cape Town harbour and is easily accessible.
To date, Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing has been successful in building a number of craft for various applications and currently has moulds to produce the following power catamarans.
* Magnum 23 - 23ft Catamaran
* Magnum 28 - 28ft Catamaran
* Magnum 32 - 32ft Catamaran
* Bobkat 1301 - 13m Catamaran
* Bobkat 22m - 22m Catamaran
The Bobkat craft are adapted for commercial use and have been supplied as Naval Survey, Marine Park Protection, and Patrol and Deep Sea Charter Sportfishing boats.
The largest vessel built to date is a 22m Ferry weighing 67 tonnes, licensed to carry 180 passengers.
The company custom built its first ocean going sailing yacht in 2005 working with a design by Simonis Vogdt.
The yacht, sold as the Open Ocean 50, has been most successful and additional craft are under construction.
Shortly after the launch of the first Open Ocean 50, the company built a high performance cruising sailing catamaran designed by John Shuttleworth, a British designer, well known for his work in high performance multihulls. This craft met and exceeded all expectations and is currently cruising in the Pacific.
The company is currently finalising the development of the Powershuttle 44. This Cruising Catamaran designed specifically for us by John Shuttleworth will be ideal for cruising, fishing liveaboard and charter operations and has many layouts and customising options, it will operate on either inboard or outboard power and will have long-range capabilities.
The combined experience of Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing’s management and staff, in the design, building and use of various craft at sea exceeds 10’s of thousands of hours. The management are actively involved in water sports, i.e. deep sea fishing, diving, offshore sailing and the long distance delivery of their own craft by sea.
