About Admiral Yachts (Pty) Ltd
Admiral was borne from David Bird's somewhat extreme love of sailing. As a young man, if it floated, he was at the helm. The turning point came in 1999 when David met Craig Moore, an equally avid sailor with a keen eye for craftsmanship. The first Admiral was produced that year from a subdivided factory in Cape Town and her sea trials in the challenging southern ocean proved beyond expectation. Modelled on the Nose Be by Angelo Lavranos, the capable catamaran reached 22kts under sail and achieved 5-star reviews.
With the principal design secured, the design team worked on radical improvements, particularly to the interior, developing the hand-built detail that is characteristic of African handcraft. The Admiral 50 was born in 2000 and the team's experience with the space in the 38 vastly improved spaciousness both inside and on the deck of the largest Admiral made. Admiral expanded into the current full-sized factory in 2004 and plans to release the 40 sport in 2006. _
