Crammix Bricks: One million tons of grey stoneware clay was part of the raw material which formed the nucleus more than 55 years ago, of what is today a Western Cape's leading brick manufacturer, Crammix Bricks. The large deposit of grey clay, on the 141 ha portion of the Groenland Farm, was immediately recognised as ideal for the making of glazed pipes, face bricks and other wares. A ceramic chemist and his partner planted the roots in 1947 of what is today known as Crammix, a 70 million bricks a year industry. |
