Airborne Sea Rescue Unit

The ASR unit is one of three helicopter units of the NSRI. The NSRI has 28 Coastal and 2 inshore National Sea Rescue Institute Bases. The NSRI ASR Unit supply highly trained crew to fulfill the Rescue Swimmer position for the SAAF. The ASR standard operating procedures and equipment are based on those of the US Coast Guard. Our Station's Mission, along with the Mission of the National Sea Rescue Institute is To Save Lives on South African Waters It is however, a highly trained unit which specializes in large scale aerial rescues.
